Why is it important to read the tachograph?

Every transporter that is tachograph obligated must read their drivers' cards every 28 days. Failing to do this risks missing data, and hefty fines are issued for this. Additionally, the digital tachograph itself must be read every 90 days. We advise our customers (who manually read) to read the drivers' cards once every 2 weeks and the tachograph itself once a month. This is easy with our reading solutions, so you can avoid the risk of fines for missing data!

With our reading solutions, transporters are able to download the ddd. files from the digital tachograph. This way, they can transfer the data upon request during inspections by the IL&T.

Did you know that in 2020, the Dutch Inspectorate of the Environment and Transport (IL&T) expanded its number of inspectors by 150? With the extra capacity, the number of inspections has risen dramatically. With our wireless reading equipment, you can face these inspections with peace of mind.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a question? Check if it is described below. If not, feel free to contact us.

When do I need to read my driver card?

The driver card must be read every 28 days. However, we recommend our customers do this every 2 weeks to prevent missing data.

When do I need to read my digital tachograph?

The digital tachograph must be read every 90 days. We advise our customers to read the tachograph once a month to avoid missing data.

What data is recorded by the digital tachograph?

The digital tachograph records the driving and resting times of the driver. This data is stored on the driver card and in the tachograph itself. The tachograph also monitors working hours and other activities that arise during operations.

What should I do if my vehicle still has an analog tachograph?

Analog tachographs cannot be read by our hardware. Therefore, the driver must keep their own records using the tachograph card.

Which is better, manual or automatic reading of the tachograph?

Let's clarify that both methods are suitable for collecting tachograph data. However, we recommend our customers choose to automatically read the digital tachograph. This method eliminates the risk of missing data, significantly reducing the chance of tachograph fines!

Are all digital tachographs suitable for automatic reading?

Unfortunately, this is not the case. Digital tachographs manufactured in 2012 or earlier are not suitable for automatic reading. If you have an older tachograph produced before 2012, it can only be read manually.

Which tachographs are supported by your hardware?

Both VDO and Stoneridge tachographs are supported by our reading solutions.
